Sahib vs Iyah: How Madras High Court dealt with a case of noise pollution 88 years ago

In 1934, Shaikh Ismail Sahib, resident of Ramanuja Aiyar Street at Old Washermanpet, went to the City Civil Judge for an injunction to prevent his neighbour, Nirchinda Venkatanarasimhulu Iyah, and his servants from producing loud music at night. The trial court rejected his plea. But the High Court said Sahib’s objection was well-founded
