A legal battle over 404 acres of land at Munambam, Ernakulam, has taken on troubling social and communal dimensions. The Kerala State Waqf Board has staked its claim on the property, which was transferred as Waqf—an inalienable endowment under Islamic law— to an educational institution in Kozhikode. The descendants of those who purchased the land from the institution now face the looming threat of eviction, reports K.S. Sudhi
