Calcutta HC rejects West Bengal govt.’s appeal for death penalty in R.G. Kar rape-murder case, admits CBI’s plea

Both the State govt. and the CBI had filed petitions seeking enhancement of punishment for the convict; Division Bench says since the CBI has investigated the case, it is the appropriate authority to issue directions for presentation of an appeal against ‘inadequate sentence’
