Chenab bridge designed to survive loss of one of its piers

The credit for conceptualising the design that allows this stability goes to G. Madhavi Lata, Professor of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru; she says the challenge was to ensure that the foundations of the bridge are extremely strong
