Several agitations broke out in Tamil Nadu when those in power tried to regulate power tariff for farming. In the early 1970s, the State witnessed two incidents of firing and lathi-charge on farmers. In all, 19 lives were lost, including that of a head constable. On both occasions, M. Karunanidhi was heading the DMK government
